Amy Commean

Founder, Attorney

Amy was born and raised in NW Indiana, graduating from La Porte High School in 1995. She graduated from St. Mary's College at Notre Dame in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in French and Political Science.  She then attended law school at St. Louis University and graduated in 2002. After graduating, Amy practiced family-based immigration law, working with clients on matters of asylum, lawful permanent residence, and removal and deportation matters. 

In 2004, Amy joined the Missouri State Public Defender Trial Division. She represented clients on matters ranging from misdemeanor drug offenses to murder in the first degree. During her tenure there, Amy was promoted to the level of Senior Public Defender and then took on a managerial role as Deputy District Dedender, managing an office of 12 lawyers, 3 support staff, and 2 investigators. Amy was a member of the Missouri State Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and co-founded the Southeast Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers with another attorney. 

During the COVID pandemic, Amy and her family moved back to NW Indiana to be closer to family and open her own practice. Amy was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 2021. Her practice focuses exclusively on federal and criminal defense and family law. She primarily represents clients charged with major felonies, including drug offenses, murder, and other serious offenses. Amy treats each client with dignity and respect and works hard to get to know and understand each client personally and what brought them to their current situation. Her practice is client-centered and individually client-focused. 

Amy is admitted to the Indiana Bar, and is also admitted to practice before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. She is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association, the Women Lawyers Association, the La Porte County Bar Association, serves as a Council Member on the Criminal Justice Section of the Indiana State Bar Association, and is also a member the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. She also serves as appointed counsel in federal cases as a member of the Criminal Justice Act Panel for the Northern District of Indiana. 

Amy is married and she and her husband are parents of three daughters. Amy enjoys gardening, farmer's markets, hiking with her family, reading at the beach, cooking, traveling to the mountains, attending Notre Dame Football home games as often as possible, and spending time with family and friends.
